About

ILLPRINTS is the next evolutionary stage for the ILOVELETTERS brand.

With over 20-years of benching and railfanning photos, I've always looked for ways to utilize and put them out there instead of leaving them to sit on a hard drive or in a shoebox. Starting with the iloveletters.ca website back in 2007, it eventually adapted and moved onto social media which lead to producing the first printed issue of ILLZINE in March of 2016. I've always preferred print to digital and so I later released the ILLZINE FLICKPACKS which contain carefully curated, packaged hardcopy photos pulled from 20 years of benched graffiti on freights.

With ILLPRINTS I took the same approach as I did with the FLICKPACKS and painstakingly dug through 10-years worth of digital photos, except with a different set of criteria for what I pulled out.

This time I wanted to focus on zoomed in and meticulously cropped sections of the photos where the graffiti is no longer the main focus but a complimenting factor to the overall composition within the frame.

More than the graffiti featured in the photos, I looked even closer for the logos, textures, mix of colours, weathered decals, rust streaks, buff marks and anything else that added interest to the overall composition. All of the things that give North American freight trains the aesthetic I love.
